Pigna

Pigna is a medieval village 20 minutes (20 kilometers) from the sea and not far away from the French Riviera and Montecarlo. The municipality of Pigna shares a border with France. Nice airport is about one hour by car, while Genoa airport is 2 hours away. The nearest seaside resort is Ventimiglia. Five kilometers from Ventimiglia there is Bordighera with its long seafront promenade, mostly traffic-free. A further 10 kilometers away there is San Remo, a pleasant and busy little place, great for shopping, Pigna is listed among the most beautiful villages in Italy by the Italian Private Tourism Association "Touring club" (http://www.bandierearancioni.it/borgo/pigna).

The centre is made of narrow and picturesque streets remained untouched over the centuries. The area is part of a regional park with other medieval villages and a pristine nature where you can practice several sports, such as canyoning, mountain biking, mountaineering, horse riding and walking.  Pigna has seen its population decrease from about 3.000 one century ago to 800 nowadays, but in the last 20 years many abandoned buildings have been restored. Pigna, especially in summer is home to a great number of foreign tourists, many of whom own property in the village. In Pigna and in the neighbouring villages you can find excellent restaurants where you can taste the local cuisine.  The village has 3 stores, 3 restaurants, 4 coffee bars, a pizzeria, a music bar open from 5pm to 2am, a doctor's surgery, pharmacy, bank, post office.....  Pigna can offer also a tennis court, a football field and two children's play areas.  Otherwise, in Isolabona 10 minutes from Pigna, the campsite has a big pool where it is possible to go for the day. Twelve kilometers from Pigna there is Dolceaqua also lsited among the most beautiful villages in Italy by the Italian Private Tourism Association "Touring club" (http://www.bandierearancioni.it/borgo/dolceacqua). There are also plenty of rock pools around the village suitable for bathing. Street festivals are very frequent especially during the summer period.
